Sometimes you see an enemy do something and you're like "AWWWW, I wanna be able to do that!" But you know there's no way they'll teach you. Sometimes your friend shows off this cool new ability, but dies before they have the chance to shows you how to do it.
Ever been in this predicament? Well no more! With this variant you are now able to mimic a technique that you've seen, much in a similar manner to how Goku and friends do in the canon, no spending, no teaching, just good old fashion copy-catting!
Let's get started.
With this variant, if you see a technique performed, unobstructed, nobody stopping you from looking at it, or somehow preventing you from paying attention, you may choose to attempt to learn the technique on the spot. First you must memorize what the opponent did, this is accomplished by making a spellcraft check, the DC of which is equal to the number of points invested to create the technique (i.e. the cost divided by 10 with some exceptions) + the level of the character at the time of the technique's creation. For example, the basic kamehameha is a 19 point special attack, learned at level 10, thus the spellcraft DC would be 29 to copy it upon first seeing it used.
Now you've seen the technique, now time to learn it, you must attempt to perform the attack by making a concentration check of the same DC as the earlier spellcraft check. Upon success, you immediately use the attack for the first time, and always have it available for use, it does not factor as a feat on your list, and therefore does not add PL to your character. You cannot have more than your spellscore modifier in techniques memorized, without gaining more, and can only hold onto it for your intelligence score in days before forgetting it, if you have not yet succeeded in using the technique.
The first attempt to use a new technique is unwieldy and inefficient, the cost is doubled, and if you fail more than your character level times on the concentration check you cannot learn the technique anymore, until it is re-seen and re-memorized.
